Tracking Tim Peake’s Tweets From Space

From an Army Air Corps Officer to the first British European Space Agency astronaut to set foot on the International Space Station (ISS), Tim Peake has become something of an intergalactic celebrity. He was launched to the ISS on December 15 2015, and famously selected Queen’s ‘Don’t Stop Me Now,’ U2’s ‘Beautiful Day’ and Coldplay’s ‘A Sky Full of Stars’ as his official take-off playlist. Now the cosmonaut is living the high life on-board the ISS, the habitable artificial satellite that orbits at a height of 400km.

Tim’s sparked a fresh new interest in space travel, and has even launched a Twitter account to keep his newfound fans in the loop. Here’s a glimpse at what’s been happening on the ISS over the past few weeks.

January 8 2016

“Great talking to @SandringhamSch1 today over the radio - some good technical questions!”

Sandringham School students were treated to a cosmic thrill when they tuned in for a chat with Tim Peake himself!

January 7

“Great view of Sinai Peninsula & river Nile. One of my favourite diving spots down there in the Red Sea!”

As Tim flew over Egypt he snapped a photograph of the Red Sea, revealing it’s one of his favourite spots to scuba dive. Tim completed intensive underwater drills during his astronaut training.

January 5

#spacerocks.4 Picture yourself by a rocket. Picture yourself in a glittering silver suit. Picture yourself getting on it.”

Just because he’s living on a space station it doesn’t mean that Tim’s let his love for music lapse. He still gives the Kaiser Chiefs a spin every now and then, and isn’t afraid to tweet about it.

January 4

“Happy 40th anniversary to @PrincesTrust! Proud to be your ambassador! Watch documentary on The Trust with @AntandDec tonight on @ITV at 9pm”

As a Princes Trust ambassador, Tim will be taking part in the April 24 Digital Virgin Money London Marathon, from outer space!

December 31

“Happy New Year United Kingdom!”

Tim might have spent New Year’s Eve on the ISS but that didn’t stop him from recording a video message for all the earthlings he left behind. Watch it here!

Europe may be stealing the spotlight as of late, but Russia still remains a serious presence in the space science sphere.
