Solve bioassay challenges: Fluorescence-free, UV-transparent, solvent-resistant quartz plates
Oct 13 2025
Researchers measuring protein at 280 nm or nucleic acids at 260 nm face persistent problems: the microplates themselves interfere with readings. Below 320 nm, plastic and plastic-bonded plates absorb significantly whilst generating background fluorescence, creating noise that compromises sensitivity – particularly frustrating with low-concentration samples.
Starna Scientific's monolithic quartz 96-well plates address these limitations through full synthetic quartz construction. Heat-fused without adhesives, these single-piece plates deliver complete UV-Vis transmission from 180 nm where plastic alternatives simply cannot perform.
But optical performance is only part of the story. Quartz withstands aggressive solvents, DMSO, DMF, strong acids, that would dissolve or deform plastic plates. It also survives repeated autoclaving at 121°C without warping or leaching contaminants, supporting indefinite reuse and sustainable laboratory practices.
Manufactured under ISO 9001 quality management, each plate delivers consistent performance over years of use. Standard specifications include 300 µL well capacity and 2 mm flat base geometry, ensuring compatibility with conventional plate readers. The fluorescence-free, single-piece construction eliminates contamination risks whilst enabling sensitive assays where signal-to-noise ratio is paramount.
For demanding research in biopharmaceutical development, clinical diagnostics, and academic laboratories, these capabilities prove essential when measuring low-concentration samples with maximum sensitivity and reproducibility.
