Groundbreaking FTIR microscopy systems receive significant enhancements

Agilent Technologies, Inc introduced significant enhancements to its Cary 610 and 620 Fourier transform infrared spectrometer (FTIR) microscopes. These groundbreaking FTIR microscopy systems are designed for ultimate performance, offering the largest field of view at the highest spatial resolution in the shortest period of time. The instrument is designed for use in a wide range of applications, including biomedical, materials, polymers, food, forensics, pharmaceutical and chemical.

"The Cary 620 FTIR imaging microscope's innovative, high-magnification optics provide the highest-resolution data quality, unsurpassed by any other FTIR system," said Philip Binns, Agilent's vice president of spectroscopy products. "This system brings the power of synchrotron FTIR imaging onto the laboratory bench. The enhancements we have made in both hardware and software provide our customers with capabilities to analyse samples that were never before possible, allowing them to advance their research, increase production capacity and reduce costs."

The Cary 610 is a single-point FTIR microscope, capable of single-point mapping, while the Cary 620 is a focal plane array (FPA) based imaging FTIR microscope. A Cary 610 can be easily upgraded to a Cary 620 as user needs evolve.

With Agilent's unique 4x IR objective, users can image large (centimeter-sized) samples in minutes, then zoom in using the new proprietary high-magnification optics to look at the smallest of features without moving the sample-all with synchrotron FTIR imaging-like spatial resolution.

The Agilent Cary 620 is the only FTIR microscope to offer live FPA imaging with enhanced chemical contrast, allowing for sample-preparation-free-analysis of polymer laminates and films. Delicate samples can be analysed in minutes with real-time visual feedback to deliver high-quality attenuated total reflectance data. This eliminates tedious sample preparation, such as resin embedding, and saves significant laboratory time and expense.

The Cary 610/620 FTIR systems offer enhanced flexibility for busy laboratories. New IR high-magnification optics provide an additional 5x magnification without changing the objectives. Unsurpassed energy throughput and enhanced software ensure that a wider range of samples can be analysed quickly and easily. All of this is backed by the largest choice of objectives, accessories and imaging options for more customised experiments.
