Steve Mullings faces lifetime ban

A Jamaican sprinter faces a lifetime ban from athletics after testing positive for banned substances in clinical laboratory tests.

Steve Mullings will no longer be allowed to take part in the upcoming Athletics World Championships in Daegu from August 27th.

According to clinical laboratory tests, Mullings have a sample which was positive for the banned substance furosemide at the Jamaican trials.

Mullings was informed of the result by the Jamaica Anti-doping Commission (JADCO) when the B sample also came back positive, he has just 14 days to request a formal hearing from the panel.

The sprinter was also banned for two years in 2004 for excessive testosterone.

"What can I do? I'm going to go in front of the panel and say I never took the drug," Mullings said.

"The people around me know I don't take drugs, but it's going to look bad on me because of 2004," he added.

In July, Tour de France cyclist Alexandr Kolobnev also tested positive for banned substances.
