LHC publishes first formal laboratory news

Jul 29 2010

One of the world's best-known scientific facilities, the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), has published its first official laboratory news update, the University of Toronto reports.

The educational institution, which played a key role in the work leading to the announcement, notes that all is going to plan at the LHC.

As a result of the findings so far, the scientists on-site are progressing towards a major piece of laboratory news - the discovery of the God particle, the Higgs Boson.

So far they have confirmed many of the elements of the Standard Model for the existence and interaction of matter.

However, the university adds that the discovery of the God particle would finally complete the explanation of the formation of matter and why particles have mass at all.

The Large Hadron Collider is one of the world's largest laboratory environments, with a circular tunnel whose circumference measures 27 km and sits up to 175 m below the surface of the ground.
