GSK issues swine flu vaccine update

Apr 01 2010

Swine flu continues to be a global problem and GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) is continuing in efforts to provide countries with up-to-date vaccines to ease the pandemic, the organisation has stated.

In an update regarding the virus, GSK said it is working closely with governments from around the world to offer bespoke programmes for dealing with the issue.

"Pandemics by their nature are unpredictable and we recognise that governments’ needs are changing," it explained.

Earlier this year, the pharmaceutical giant said it started delivering two doses of the vaccine, but found high immune responses after lab testing to one of the medicines.

According to the firm, it continues to collect data regarding clinical trial programmes in relation to H1N1 medications and recently amended an existing agreement with Japan to deliver 68 per cent of ordered units.

The World Health Organization note laboratory-confirmed testing has revealed over 200 countries are experiencing swine flu cases.
