TITAN CUBED 80-300 makes latest microscopy news
Dec 13 2010
High-resolution transmission electron microscopy allows for the device to characterise semiconductor structures quickly and accurately.
It has been in testing for four months but is the latest microscopy facility to be put to work on active research projects at the institute.
The equipment offers ways to analyse tiny structures for applications in spintronics and nanotechnology where defects on the scale of a single atom must be detected.
Kamil Sobczak, a PhD student at the institute's Electron Microscopy Group, says: "So small objects, we are not able to see by use of visible light."
The Institute of Physics of the Polish Academy of Sciences was created in 1953 through the decision of the nation's government.
It brings together the findings of seven major universities as part of a country-wide academic and innovative network.
