Microtechnique news 'can meet with wide consideration'

Dec 03 2010

Microtechnique news relating to nanotechnology can be considered from a wide range of perspectives by laypeople, even if they do not fully understand the science involved.

That is the conclusion of a paper written by Anna Leinonen and Sirkku Kivisaari and published in the research notes of the Technical Research Centre of Finland.

According to the authors, the reporting of nanotechnology-related microtechnique news in the press has changed over the years.

During the 1990s, the emerging technology was typically discussed in scientific terms in the media.

However, while many common people still do not understand the science of nanotechnology, it is often no longer discussed in such a way.

Other issues - like societal implications arising from its use - are now typically included in reports of new developments.

The Technical Research Centre of Finland is northern Europe's largest applied research organisation to address multiple technologies in the delivery of high-end innovation services.
