SmartLab Exchange reveals lab efficiency is biggest priority for managers
Aug 24 2012
The annual SmartLab Exchange survey results have revealed that the majority (58 per cent) of laboratory managers state improving lab efficiency as a key priority.
SmartLab Exchange recently surveyed their global community of CIOs and Global/Regional Heads of Laboratory Informatics, R&D, QA, QC, Data Automation, Enterprise Integration and Infrastructure, finding that lab efficiency was the key priority, followed by integrating data and systems, which was also deemed to be of critical importance.
Additioanal information from the survey showed that the question at the forefront of most lab manager's minds is "How can I deliver the same amount of quality with fewer resources?" The most common goal was to uncover solutions that would help labs run more efficiently, with the aim of implementing new technologies that will increase productivity globally.
The report highlighted that integration was seen as important by the laboratory heads, with 49 per cent of respondents stating this is of critical importance. Uniting data and equipment within the organisation was not only viewed as a priority, but leaders also expressed concern at the proliferation of complex data.
Implementing laboratory products and solutions to cope with this influx of data will become a priority, with better management in regards to the flow of data between sites also cited as important by survey respondents.
Gabriela Magaldo, head of production, SmartLab Exchange, commented: "This report provides a fascinating insight into the reasons why laboratory informatics professionals are investing in technology, as well as some compelling calls to action for solution providers who are looking to help these companies drive efficiency across their labs."
The information was released ahead of the SmartLab Exchange Network, which is an invitation only forum designed to help senior strategy makers overcome their most pressing challenges. The forum is made up only of CIOs and Laboratory Informatics executives with the highest credentials, who liaise with solution providers with the most cutting edge capabilities, to deliver a unique business development opportunity and true peer-to-peer learning and networking forum.
