Innovative Characterisation Instruments Provide Nanoparticle Research Breakthrough
Apr 10 2013
Beckman Coulter Life Sciences debuted a new family of innovative particle characterisation products at Pittcon 2013. DelsaMax particle analysers measure the size and zeta potential of nanoparticles with groundbreaking speed and high precision. Instruments in the family utilise two independent detection systems that operate in parallel – a unique and proprietary configuration that significantly streamlines workflows in biological, chemical, material and polymer science applications.
DelsaMax PRO light scattering and zeta potential analyser provides precise measurement of the size, structure and charge of particles 0.4 to 10,000nm in diameter in as little as one second, the fastest particle analysis available. An Avalanche photodiode detector provides size measurements, and 31 independent photodetectors measure zeta potential, dramatically reducing analysis time and increasing accuracy.
Chemistry and materials applications are facilitated in the PRO through fast, reliable measurement of sub-10 nm particles, weak scatters and dilute systems. Measuring zeta potential in particles down to 1 nm means that small biologicals can be analysed, and, importantly, proteins in native conditions are not damaged, allowing stable and reproducible assessment of zeta potential and isoelectric point even at very low volumes and low concentrations.
DelsaMax CORE analysers utilise independent dynamic and true static light-scattering detectors to measure the size and molecular weight of particles from 0.4 to 10,000nm, at sample volumes as low as 1mL. The cuvette-based system operates at temperatures between -15º and 150º C.
A unique cell pressurisation system, DelsaMax ASSIST, forces inert gas into the flow cell of the PRO to reduce bubbling, stabilise the sample and simplify injections. The PRO can also connect to a standard HPLC autosampler to speed sample loading and unloading.
DelsaMax Analysis Software features an intuitive interface with fully customisable auto-correction analysis and the ability to create overlays, custom user variables, reports and more. Spurious data can be edited out without rerunning the sample.
