New Software Empowers Scientists in Life Science Laboratories

TotalLab launches Phoretix 1D, a fully automatable software for fast, accurate and reproducible 21 CFR Part 11 compliant analysis of 1D gel and blot images.

TotalLab, a global leader in image analysis software for life science, has evolved its 1D gel electrophoresis and blot image analysis software offering with the launch of Phoretix 1D.

The software has a user-friendly, easy-to-navigate workflow and benefits from user-defined automation which enables fast, accurate and reproducible results when analysing 1D gels and blots.

Building on TotalLab’s decades of experience responding to the needs of customers, Phoretix 1D has been designed from the ground up to be easy to use and quick to learn whilst providing all the functionality required to perform powerful analysis of 1D gels and blots.

Built using completely redesigned code, the software’s advanced automation and intuitive algorithms enable greater standardisation in established workflows. Users can choose their desired level of automation, from automatic lane and band detection to full automatic analysis of a project.

Phoretix 1D also features industry-leading background removal algorithms to automatically remove background ‘noise’ and ensure more accurate band intensity measurements. These specifically developed algorithms also translate to greater accuracy of molecular weight calculation, quantity calibration and normalisation.

Alongside these algorithms, its user-defined protocols enable complete one-click analysis of images. This feature alone completely removes the risk of inter-operator error whilst simultaneously increasing time savings, as well as confidence in analysis. It’s also possible to share user-defined protocols between users, thus standardising lab workflows all across the world.

By using TotalLab’s device-agnostic software, laboratories can save time, costs and reduce the environmental impact of sourcing new equipment, as it is compatible with all current image documentation devices that export images in industry-standard image formats and the latest versions of both Windows and macOS operating systems (including M1 chip Macs).

For regulated or production environments, Phoretix 1D can also be integrated into TotalLab’s 21 CFR Part 11 compliant GxP Module to provide data traceability, secure sign-ins and reporting for auditing purposes.

Dr Steven Dodd, Head of Sales and Business Development commented: “We have been listening to the evolving needs of our users and we are delighted to release to the market our streamlined software for the comprehensive analysis of 1D gels and blots.

“It’s great to see how our product developments, using the latest advances in technology, will support our customers to optimise workflows and improve the reproducibility and reliability of their results, whilst also adhering to 21 CFR Part 11 regulations where necessary.”

TotalLab was spun out of Nonlinear Dynamics in 2013 after it was acquired by Waters Corporation. Its cutting-edge image analysis solutions are built from decades of experience working with both industry and academia. Its expanding portfolio includes 1D gel and blot software Phoretix 1D, image databasing software CLIQS 1D Pro, as well as 2D gel and blot image analysis software SpotMap and SameSpots.
