Life sciences provider goes direct

Life science tools provider Takara Bio Europe has announced that its own brand life science reagents and assay products, as well as the Clontech range are now available directly to customers in the UK, Germany, Austria and Switzerland. The establishment of a wholly-owned sales organisation demonstrates confidence in the European research market while putting the company closer to its customers.

Takara Bio Europe’s president, Dr Jean-Jacques Farhi explained that there were a number of compelling reasons behind the move: “Firstly, whilst our distributors have done an excellent job, we felt that we wanted to be more directly involved with our customers since this is a field that relies on feedback for product innovation. Globally, Takara Bio is also growing significantly and we felt the time was right to enhance our direct sales offering. We are seeing high demand for our PCR range in Europe, and qPCR in particular, for exacting applications such as plant genomics and ancient DNA amplification.

Dr Farhi added that new product launches planned for 2012, starting with additions to the PrimeSTAR polymerase PCR would be backed by both new catalogues and an e-commerce portal expected to launch by the end of the year.
