Don’t miss out, visit the Scientific Laboratory Show and Conference 2020
The Scientific Laboratory Show and Conference 2020 is once again returning to the East Midlands Conference Centre at the University of Nottingham on Wednesday 20th May 2020. This free event, organised by Scientific Laboratory Supplies (SLS) - the UK's largest independent supplier of chemicals, laboratory equipment and consumables - community, offering an opportunity to meet like-minded people, learn new things and see the very best scientific technology and equipment for the laboratory.
Building on the success of previous shows, this year’s event promises to be even bigger and better, as SLS continues to respond to the changing needs and demands of its customers. A must-attend event for science professionals, the show offers value to everyone, from laboratory technicians to chief executives.
An educational experience
The value of the show extends beyond merely meeting exhibitors, thanks to the accompanying conference schedule. SLS is delighted to be working once again with the Science Council. This year’s event will offer a range of master classes, some of which count towards CPD, including:
- Writing a killer CV
- Interview techniques
- Membership and professional registration
- Understanding unconscious bias in the workplace
- Maintaining a CPD log
- Understanding how to apply for professional registration
- IBMS – benchmarking performance on diversity, equality and inclusion
The exciting programme of lectures, workshops and seminars will also include demonstrations from Eppendorf, Miele, Ohaus and Corning.
This year’s keynote speakers are Dr Tara Shine, an expert in the field of climate change and climate justice, and Professor Richard Wiseman, who was described in Scientific American as one of the most interesting and innovative experimental psychologists in the world today.
Tara has dedicated over 20 years of her life to the pursuit of fairness between people and people and the planet. Passionate about communicating her science and her positive vision for the future, she will be talking about making both local and systemic change, with real-world examples drawn from personal experiences. Richard - one of the most followed psychologists on Twitter and listed by the Independent On Sunday as one of the top 100 people who make Britain a better place to live - will be giving a talk on The Luck Factor: Why do some people lead happy successful lives whilst others face repeated failure? Join Richard to find out how ‘The Luck Factor’ can change everything for individuals and organisations.
In addition to the varied conference schedule, delegates can take advantage of the Science Council’s Professional Development Zone (PDZ), and engage with relevant bodies, including the Royal Society of Chemistry, the Royal Society of Biology, the Institute of Physics, the Institute of Science and Technology, the National Technician Development Centre and the Institute of Biomedical Science. Whether seeking career advice, or asking for help to tweak a CV, the Science Council’s member bodies are on hand to support visitors in their scientific professions.
Something for everyone
This year, the show will bring together over 60 exhibitors from across the scientific laboratory supply chain, with a number choosing to launch new products at the event. The exhibitors represent the breadth of the scientific community, from food safety and pharmaceuticals to healthcare and water analysis. The event offers an opportunity to step away from online or paper catalogues and see the products in person, and attracts scientists from both academia and industry. A focus on quality over quantity ensures there is space and time for visitors to discuss products, request site surveys and view demonstrations.
Whether you are looking for freezers and refrigerators or pipettes and pumps, you are sure to find high quality and great value products from SLS’s selected partners. Event sponsor Eppendorf will be showcasing its range of consumables, cell culture and liquid handling solutions, as well as its new sample management systems – from barcoded consumables and tracking software, through to cold storage and remote monitoring. Corning, another main sponsor, will be promoting its new Axygen® multi rack tip system, alongside its Elplasia® plates, Matrigel® matrix and award-winning Cell Counter.
