ToScA 2017: Sept 6-8 Portsmouth
Jun 21 2017
ToScA, Tomography for Scientific Advancement is the UK’s only symposium which engages specifically with the field of tomography and microCT and its applications across the fields of biological and physical sciences. It provides the opportunity for researchers and peers to involve themselves in the community of tomography and micro CT imaging, keeping abreast of recent advancements within the field.
As well as providing a platform for engagement with the most up to date research within the field of tomography and microCT imaging, ToScA also facilitates networking links with prominent members of the UK community of users of tomographic and micro CT approaches, opening up the possibility of collaborative relationships within the field.
The symposium will be chaired by Dr Farah Ahmed (NHM), who manages the X-Ray CT facility at London’s Natural History Museum. Dr Ahmed is currently involved in a number of CT imaging related projects which span the biological and physical scientific disciplines. Her specific research focus is centred around developments in CT methodology, applications of which range from soft tissue, bone and biomaterials, the mining sector, as well as within the field of palaeontological research.
Professor Asa Barber, and Dr Gianluca Tozzi from the University of Portsmouth are this year’s scientific organisers and symposium co-chairs. Professor Barber and Dr Tozzi are currently collaborating on a research project into the effects of heat generation on tissue damage in relation to the use of SR-micro CT technology.
Reigistration is now open for this 5th annual ToScA symposium which will be addressing hard and soft tissue imaging, understanding materials in 3D, recent advances in hardware and software, and a broad range of applications in tomography. This international symposium will consist of keynote speakers, student talks, student poster presentations and an image competition. The symposium provides opportunity for open discussions, networking with researchers and commercial industry as well as a platform to engage in collaborations.
Workshops will be taking place on 6 September and the symposium begins on 7 September.
