Professor Chris Hawes Hon FRMS Memorial PhD Studentship

A three-year, full-time PhD studentship has been launched in honour of the late Professor Chris Hawes Hon FRMS.
The project, titled 'Protein production and transport in the plant ER-NE continuum', is being offered by Oxford Brookes University, where Chris was Professor of Plant Cell Biology and Bioimaging Unit Director.
Employing cutting edge microscopy and associated techniques, the position provides the opportunity to investigate the importance of the molecular mechanisms in plant protein production and transport.

Chris was involved with the RMS for around 40 years, taking on a number of senior positions and making a particularly significant contribution to the Society’s Outreach activities. He served as President from 2004-2006, and as Executive Honorary Secretary for nine years up until his death in 2019.
He remains sorely missed by all his colleagues and friends within the Society and the wider scientific community.
