Honorary OBE for co-Founder of BioImagingUK
Jun 22 2021
The RMS is delighted to learn that the co-founder of the BioImagingUK initiative, Professor Jason Swedlow, has been awarded an Honorary OBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List 2021.
Jason, Professor of Quantitative Cell Biology in the School of Life Sciences at the University of Dundee and a former RMS Life Sciences Committee member, helped set up the community network of UK imaging scientists in 2011, aimed at bringing together those who develop, use, or administer imaging solutions for life sciences research. Bioimaging UK is now co-funded by the RMS.
Until this year, Jason served as the UK’s Scientific Representative to Euro-BioImaging, an EU research infrastructure that offers open access to imaging technologies and data services. BioimagingUK, together with UKRI-BBSRC and UKRI-MRC, are now in the process of identifying pilot UK Community Access Nodes for Euro-BioImaging – an initiative which would not have been possible without Jason’s hard work, dedication and indomitable spirit – qualities from which the UK bioimaging community has benefitted hugely.
Professor of Quantitative Cell Biology in the School of Life Sciences at the University of Dundee his Honorary OBE recognises his services to Biological Imaging, technology which measures the structure and function of cells and tissues. Professor Swedlow has helped pioneer this expertise in the UK and around the world.
