Organs-on-Chips Centre Offers Alternative Research Pathway

A virtual launch of the new £1million Queen Mary & Emulate Organs-on-Chips Centre took place in London on July 15, supported with a programme including talks from Innovate UK, GSK and academia. Details of a new Proof of Concept funding call for projects using the Emulate Centre were also announced.

This major new facility at Mile End, developed in partnership with Emulate Inc, provides open access to Emulate’s organ-chip technology with support from dedicated centre scientists. Researchers have the opportunity to develop multi cellular or organoid models using blank microfluidic chips or use validated models for lung, intestine, liver, kidney, bone etc.

The UK organ-on-a-chip Network and Emulate, Inc are also offering Network members the opportunity to apply for a Proof of Concept Award to use this brand new core facility.

This initiative aims to help academics win new research grants by providing organ-chips, access to the Emulate platform and support from the Centre Scientist. Researchers can apply to use Emulate’s platform technology, The Human Emulation system in a variety of different ways including:

To generate preliminary data to support future grant applications

To provide a direct contribution for a grant application

To provide preliminary data leading to further use of the centre from existing funding

The total initiative, generously supported by Emulate, consists of approximately £100k of funding and provides access to £120,000 of organ-chip technology available at the Queen Mary-Emulate Organs on Chips Centre.
