This introductory one-day “What is Nanomedicine?” course will provide a broad overview of some of the most important applications of nanotechnology in medicine including insights into:

·       molecular imaging

·       lab-on-a-chip, quantum dots and other novel diagnostic tools

·       nanobiosensors

·       regenerative medicine, including tissue engineering and cell and gene therapy

·       advanced and “smart” medical materials

·       nanotechnology-based drug targeting and delivery systems

This is the first in our 2009 series of short professional training course modules that have been designed to provide clinicians, medical researchers, managers and others with a thorough overview of how nanotechnology will impact future medical therapies and practice. This particular course will be particularly useful to those who are relatively new to the rapidly-growing field of nanomedicine.

Further one-day courses will be held during 2009 on specific aspects of nanomedicine including: nano- drug design and delivery; nanotechnology and regenerative medicine, nanotechnology and medical devices, and nanodiagnostics. Each course will be presented by leading experts in the field and will include clinical case studies and topical examples of the application of nanotechnology to improve existing treatments or to develop completely new therapies or devices.
