CPI engineers a Corning Micro-Reactor Test Facility
Jan 13 2009
The Centre for Process Innovation (CPI), the lead driver of innovation in the UK’s processing sector, has announced a collaboration with Corning Incorporated, a world leader in specialty glass and ceramics, to assist with the industry trials of the company’s new micro-reactor.
CPI is building a customised microreactor test facility at the Wilton Centre on Teesside, which will be open to US and European speciality
chemical and pharmaceutical clients. The facility is designed to be completely adaptable, with multifeed systems available for selection by the
client and unique “plug and play” down stream processing techniques, to provide the best possible place for trial of new processes.
Together, CPI and Corning will work with prospective industrial clients to evaluate their current processes and perform initial feasibility studies within the reactor and surrounding infrastructure. This will enable clients to fully assess the reactor for their processes and products before taking the risk on a large capitol outlay.
Sophie Walton, advanced processing Business Development Manager at CPI explains, “Processing methods are changing as companies look for new methods to improve their output and reduce costs. Traditional methods of production using batch reactors can prove inconsistent and waste a significant amount of energy and heat.
“The benefits of this new compact continuous micro-reactor are clear to see - it is safer, more efficient and greener, and we look forward to
working with Corning and industry to support its deployment into the European and US marketplace. With physical assets, a high calibre
of scientists and an array of skilled expertise, CPI are in the best possible position to help to reduce the risk for companies looking to change
their processes for the better.”
