CamScan Celebrate Careers of Scanning Microscopy Specialists

CamScan recently celebrated the retirement of two of their longest standing employees, both exceptional practitioners in the field of scanning microscopy. One of the founders from 1970, Malcolm Tye bowed out after leading the design and manufacturing efforts. He paid tribute to his co-founder and inspiration, Barry Drayton who unfortunately was unable to be present for the evening.

The second retiree has been in scanning microscopy for even longer. In 1963, Dick Paden began his career which was to see him as one of the industry’s innovators in design and commercialisation of electron microscopy. Dick’s first employers were Cambridge Instruments who marketed the first commercial SEM in 1965. Dick teamed up with Malcolm and Barry in 1980 as Cambridge Scanning which was to change name
to CamScan, the name by which the company has built its reputation. In leaving, Dick paid warm tribute to his colleagues for they are the makers of the company. “The people are the catalyst for the products which are
now the strongest range in the history of the company. Much of this has been made possible under the stewardship of the Swedish parent company, Obducat AB, who has provided fine support and guidance over the last twelve years.” CamScan Managing Director, Ian Holton, spoke for all present. “Dick and Malcolm have been the lifeblood of CamScan for many years and while we are sad to see them retire, we know that we will not have seen the last of them as both will continue to support the company as their hearts are very much in this quite unique company.”
