Jul 14 2025
The Wistar Institute has appointed Qingsheng Li, Ph.D., to its HIV Cure and Viral Diseases Center in Philadelphia. Originally trained in China, Dr Li brings decades of expertise in HIV pathogenesis, latency, and CRISPR-based genome editing.
Li earned his medical degree at Datong Medical College, his M.S. at Shanxi Medical University, and his PhD at Beijing University Medical School, before going on to lead research in the United States. His work focuses on cutting-edge approaches to eradicate latent HIV using CRISPR-Cas12a and RNA-based detection technologies.
“Wistar is known globally for landmark discoveries in virology and immunology,” said Dr Li. “I’m thrilled to join its strong program and collaborate with leaders like Dr Luis Montaner and Dr David Weiner at a time of scientific momentum.”
A founding member of the BEAT-HIV Delaney Collaboratory, Dr Li has played a key role in building translational strategies that bridge basic immunology and next-gen therapies. His appointment strengthens Wistar’s cross-disciplinary efforts to accelerate HIV cure research globally.
