New research centre makes laboratory product news
Apr 11 2011
EPSRC Centre for Innovative Manufacturing in Advanced Metrology has been launched at the University of Huddersfield as one of nine new centres of innovation manufacturing (CIM).
Between them, the CIM will receive some £45 million in funding.
The research centres are set to work closely with businesses and thereby encourage growth in new areas.
Laboratory product manufacturers will find that the University of Huddersfield's hub is geared towards creating "a configurable and scalable platform for implementing advanced manufacturing and measurement technologies on machines", the university claims.
This should help to increase the quality of complex manufacturing and reduce costs, as well as be a means to create a sustainable sector for future developments "dependent on precision and micro/nano scale geometrical accuracy and functionally optimised".
Recently, scientists from Washington University unveiled a computer that can be controlled using the mind - something that could be used in the future to help those with disabilities communicate.
