Laboratory equipment manufacturers make supercomputer

A supercomputer is set to be used for complex physics calculations as part of a deal between Commissariat a l'Energie Atomique et aux Energies Alternatives and Bull.

The machine will be based in Japan and open to use by thousands of fusion scientists, Fusion for Energy reveals.

Aimed towards helping research into nuclear fusion, the supercomputer is one of the most powerful technical articles in the world.

Said to be ten times more powerful than any existing system in the field of fusion, the machine has "a computational power above 1 petaflop" and its memory exceeds 250 TB.

And its storage system is high-speed and is greater than 5 PB.

Earlier this month, scientists revealed a powerful computer of another kind.

The researchers, based at the University of Washington, developed a system that medical patients can control using their mind alone.

It is hoped that such technologies in the future may be used by disabled patients to help them communicate.
