New leadership to advance analytical technology development

Agilent Technologies has appointed August Specht, PhD, as its new Chief Technology Officer.

Specht previously served as Vice President of Global R&D for the Chromatography and Mass Spectrometry Division at Thermo Fisher Scientific.

Padraig McDonnell, Agilent’s President and CEO, said: “We are excited to have August on board as we continue to drive innovation through our Ignite Transformation. With over 25 years of experience in designing and developing analytical instruments, software, and consumables, August brings deep expertise and a strong understanding of the scientific community’s needs.”

Specht’s background includes leadership roles in research and development, product management, strategy, and business development at both Thermo Fisher Scientific and Varian Instruments.

He earned a Bachelor of Science (Honors) in Chemistry from Queen’s University, a Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry from the University of British Columbia, and an MBA from the University of California, Berkeley.
