Sci-Tech Growth to Boost North-West Region
Oct 19 2014
Sci Tech Daresbury is planning its next growth phase which will see development of up to 220,000 sq ft office and laboratory facilities on a site adjacent to its main campus. One of the UK’s 24 government-backed Enterprise Zone sites, Sci-Tech Daresbury houses world leading research facilities including cutting edge particle accelerators and one of the UK’s most powerful super computers, both part of the Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC). Through a recently awarded £3.587m of Enterprise Zone capital grant funding, work on the new facilities spread across five or six buildings the new phase of the campus is set to deliver up to 220,000 sq ft of new office and laboratory space spread across five or six buildings is due to begin this year.John Downes, chief executive of Langtree and director of the Sci-Tech Daresbury joint venture board, said that the campus was a key growth driver for the region: “Investment in Sci-Tech Daresbury is critical for the health of the North West’s economy. In order to compete in global markets we must ensure that we have the right base of facilities and an environment that supports the growth of businesses based on technology and innovation. Our project partners share this vision and we believe the physical developments planned will help address a lack of new laboratory and office space in the region and support the expansion of the wide range of the businesses already thriving at Sci-Tech Daresbury, while also attracting a wide range of new companies to the site.”
