King's and JNU expand partnership

Oct 25 2012

King’s College London and Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), have strengthened a strategic partnership which will build on existing joint projects and allow for more collaboration in science, health and medicine.

A senior delegation from King’s, led by Principal and President Professor Rick Trainor, visited the JNU campus in Delhi in September to sign a new Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) which will deepen relationships with India.

Since 2008, JNU and King’s has seen visiting scholars hosted at both institutions, joint research projects developed and a continued exchange of students between London and New Delhi – giving King’s students opportunities to gain knowledge, experience and the global outlook they will need in their future careers.

Professor Rick Trainor, Principal and President of King’s said: ‘For King’s, partnerships with other universities are the cornerstone of our international strategy, with India a priority for us in building these partnerships. JNU has an impressive record of excellence, so we hope to build on our ongoing collaborations and work together across an even broader range of subjects – such as physics, life sciences and health, and other bridging subjects.’

Professor Sudhir Kumar Sopory, Vice Chancellor of JNU welcomed the King’s delegation to the JNU campus in Delhi and said: ‘King’s has a tradition of excellence, so we are very enthusiastic to be signing this new collaboration and looking forward to continuing to work together to build on that excellence.’

Professor Sunil Khilnani, Avantha Professor and Director of the King’s India Institute said: ‘One of the reasons that attracted me to King’s was the knowledge that this partnership with JNU existed – and these partnerships are the cornerstone of how we see ourselves working globally. We hope this will be a foundation for developing larger collaborative projects in various areas, so we look forward to extending and deepening our partnership.’
