Driving innovation and sustainability at Lab Innovations 2022

Register now for the UK’s largest trade show for the lab industry

Lab Innovations, the UK’s largest trade exhibition for the laboratory industry, will bring together the industry’s leading professionals, businesses and decision makers to drive innovation and sustainability. This year’s show, taking place on 2nd and 3rd November at the NEC, Birmingham, is the tenth edition of Lab Innovations and will feature special celebrations, providing visitors with extra networking opportunities. You can register now and secure your tickets for the show on the Lab Innovations website.

Last year, Lab Innovations brought together the whole lab community for the first time in nearly two years and this year’s event will build on that success, providing an opportunity for the entire industry to come together to do face-to-face business once again. There are already many exhibitors confirmed for the event, such as Avantor, Beckman Coulter, Cole-Palmer, IKA, Randox, SciMed, Shimadzu and Scientific Laboratory Supplies, to name a few.

Speaking at last year’s event, Sarah Thompson, Capital Sales and Business Development Manager at Technobis Crystallization Systems, commented: “It’s really nice to be able to attend a proper trade show again after so long apart, and it’s definitely busier than we anticipated. Visitors and exhibitors have been really keen to have conversations with us about our work and I would recommend it in future years for anyone who would like to stay in touch with new technologies and innovations in the lab industry.”

Sustainability is a key theme at Lab Innovations 2022 with the show running a sustainability trail, which is new this year. The trail will highlight some of the exhibitors making significant contributions to lab sustainability, allowing visitors to get hands-on experience with sustainable solutions and learn how to implement sustainability in their own labs.

Furthermore, at this year’s Lab Innovations, visitors can discover the latest innovations, source a range of products and gain insight into data-driven case studies, such as those from Green Light Laboratories, which demonstrate the impact of sustainable initiatives and equipment in laboratory environments.

“Lab Innovations is a great opportunity for end users to see how our equipment works in a real laboratory environment and how the data we’ve collected can be replicated in their own labs to help them to be more sustainable,” explained Andy Evans, Director at Green Light Labs and host of Lab Innovations’ Sustainable Laboratory.

This year’s Sustainable Laboratory will be bigger than ever, showcasing equipment and in-lab practices used to improve a lab’s sustainability and energy efficiency, such as new cold storage and fume hood technologies. With a focus on improving energy efficiency and lowering carbon emissions, visitors can learn from case studies and audits from a series of leading UK labs.

Sustainable Laboratory will provide visitors with an interactive tour encompassing the key discussion points around sustainability and give end-users the opportunity to discover data on performance first hand. For example, seeing how cold storage units recover temperature after their doors are opened. Visitors will also have the chance to win prizes on both days of the show by taking part in interactive sessions where they predict the sustainability rankings of different pieces of lab equipment based on the information available.

Attendees at the show can take advantage of over 40 hours of educational content and earn CPD points from four free-to-attend theatre programmes throughout the show - the Royal Society of Chemistry Theatre, the Insights & Innovation Theatre, the Cleanroom Hub and Live Lab. My Green Lab is sponsoring this year’s Insights and Innovations theatre, which has a theme of Skills and Sustainability and all talks in this theatre will follow the theme of sustainability. Some of the leading brands giving talks include Pfizer, Merck, Fisher Scientific and UKAS.

This year, visitors can attend keynote talks by Alok Jha, science correspondent, broadcaster and writer at The Economist, and Dr Steven Rannard, Professor and Chair at the University of Liverpool. Furthermore, there are talks by leaders of the lab industry, such as Emily Winkworth, Environment Advisor at Pfizer, Jeffrey Whitford, Head of Sustainability, Social Business Innovation and Life Science Branding at Millipore Sigma Merck and Andy Evans, Director of lab sustainability consultancy Green Light Laboratories. With the full line-up of speakers at this year’s show available on the website, Lab Innovations 2022 is sure to be the best one yet.

Last year’s event was particularly special as it marked a successful return for Lab Innovations after the pandemic caused the 2020 show to be postponed. One visitor, Andy Worsick, Sales Executive at EMS Solutions, commented during last year’s show, “Exhibitions have been at the forefront of getting out and seeing the right people for your business, and Lab Innovations is one of the best I’ve seen. It’s been an excellent event and I’m glad to be back!”

Lab Innovations 2022 will also feature the Lab Awards, brought to you on the afternoon of 2 November, sponsored by Mettler Toledo. It will celebrate the key achievements of the laboratory industry, with awards covering Innovation, Sustainability, Collaboration and Inclusion, there are opportunities or entrants to demonstrate their achievements across multiple areas. With the leading people and brands in the industry set to attend, the Lab Awards is an event not to be missed.

“We’re thrilled to be hosting the Lab Awards for the second time,” said Aleiya Lonsdale, Head of Marketing at Lab Innovations. “The awards are a fantastic opportunity for individual laboratory professionals, lab initiatives and suppliers alike to be recognised for the fantastic accolades that power scientific research and development across all sectors. We’re looking forward to receiving this year’s entries and finding out what the community has been working on over the past year.”

One of the winners for the Lab Awards 2021 was Anthias Consulting, a consultancy and training company for the analytical sciences industry. The business won two prizes for the ‘Most impactful online or print training resource’ award and the ‘Most impactful F2F training’ award.

"For a small business like Anthias, we were very pleased to be face-to-face with our partners, colleagues and others in the industry after such a long time apart,” explained Alana Thompson, Website and Marketing Manager at Anthias Consulting, as she spoke about her experience as a winner of the 2021 Lab Awards. “We won two Lab Awards at last year’s event, so being recognised among the bigger names in the industry felt like a big achievement. We’ve already booked for this year and we would recommend the same to any new or previous exhibitor."

The shortlist for this year’s Lab Awards will be announced soon, and the lucky few will then be judged by a panel of leading industry experts from across various organisations, associations and academic institutions. This year, to commemorate its ten year anniversary, Lab Innovations will host a celebratory party after the Lab Awards. The award ceremony will be held on the first day of Lab Innovations, 2 November, at 3pm at the Insights & Innovations Theatre. The Awards ceremony and networking party alike will celebrate the key achievements of the laboratory Industry - and are a great excuse to raise a glass in the evening.

“As this is the ten year anniversary of Lab Innovations, we are really excited to show you what we have in store for this year,” explained Alison Willis, Director at Easyfairs, the organiser of Lab Innovations. “As we get closer to the show, you can expect to see regular updates regarding the Lab Awards, special guests and other exciting features on our website. Whether you are looking to update your lab equipment or want to learn about the latest innovations in the lab industry, Lab Innovations is an event you can’t miss.”

Once again, the show will be co-located with Advanced Engineering, which is supported by key industry associations such as ADS, the SMMT, The Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), Composites UK, Make UK and the Institution of Mechanical Engineers. This helps to promote cross-sector collaboration and continued innovation by the UK’s leading laboratory and engineering industries.

This year’s Lab Innovations is set to be the best one yet as the show celebrates its tenth anniversary and it certainly isn’t an event to be missed for anyone in the laboratory community. Register to attend Lab Innovations 2022 on 2nd and 3rd November on the Lab Innovations website.
