Ebola Containment Solution puts Bioquell in Spotlight

Oct 17 2014

Decontamination technology company Bioquell has caught the attention of traders following its involvement in helping to combat the current Ebola outbreak responsible for the deaths of more than 3,400 people in Guinea, Sierra Leone and Liberia and which has also reached Europe. The Andover-based company, which saw a reported rise in shares by 21.8% during early October, provides a Pod environment solution which can convert open wards into single-patient rooms suitable for managing people suspected of carrying the virus.

Its unique hydrogen peroxide vapour (“HPV”) bio-decontamination technology has already decontaminated hospitals in the USA, France, Holland  and in the UK’s Royal Free Hospital in London, where Ebola survivor William Pooley received treatment.following Ebola patient discharge. A paper published earlier this year by Goyal et al. from the University of Minnesota confirmed the virucidal properties of HPV, including against enveloped RNA viruses such as Ebola. (Goyal S.M. et al., ‘Evaluating the virucidal efficacy of hydrogen peroxide vapour’, Journal of Hospital Infection, 86 (2014) 255 – 259.)
