Finalists Revealed for Global Water Award

ACG's Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD) plant in Dahanu nominated for Industrial Project of the Year Award

ACG, a prominent provider of comprehensive manufacturing solutions to the worldwide pharmaceutical and nutraceutical sectors, is delighted to share the news of its nomination for the prestigious Industrial Project of the Year Award by Global Water Intelligence. This award was introduced by Global Water Intelligence in 2006 to acknowledge the most noteworthy accomplishments in the global water industry.

All four finalists in this category symbolise exceptional technical or environmental accomplishments in the arena of industrial water and wastewater.

ACG's Dahanu plant's Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD) initiative recovers and recycles more than 95% of the water for reuse, thereby fulfilling regulatory requirements and alleviating local water scarcity issues. This was accomplished through a unique blend of techniques, including expanded granular sludge bed treatment, anoxic treatment for denitrification, membrane bioreactor, and high-recovery RO. Additionally, the advanced vacuum membrane distillation technology used at the facility merges the advantages of thermal distillation and membranes to produce high-quality water while consuming minimal energy. ACG and its partner, Aquatech, an industrial wastewater treatment specialist, have made an industry-altering move by implementing membrane distillation technology in this facility. It is the first full-scale plant to combine advanced vacuum membrane distillation and an agitated thin film dryer for dewatering. This innovative solution allows ACG to conserve power and produce 400 Kwh of green energy per day through biomethane production, while also achieving ZLD with the most efficient energy footprint.

The project at Dahanu is an integral component of a broader water technology and service program implemented across various other locations. The primary objective of the program is to achieve ACG's water sustainability targets by merging biological wastewater treatment and membrane distillation to generate high-quality water from challenging waste streams for reuse.

The Global Water Awards winners will be announced during the Global Water Summit in Berlin on 9th May 2023.
