Everything microscopy at MICROSCIENCE 2010, 28 th June – 1 st July

If microscopes are part of your working life then there is only one place to be at the end of June. MICROSCIENCE 2010 will be at ExCeL London 28th June – 1st July. It is Europe’s leading international conference and exhibition on microscopy, imaging and analysis. With world-renowned speakers and nearly 100 exhibiting companies it promises to be a great event.

The MICROSCIENCE 2010 Conference has attracted speakers from all over the world. This year’s Plenary Lectures will be given by Dr Jennifer Lippincott-Schwartz (NIH, US), Professor Wolfgang Baumeister (Max-Planck Institute of Biochemistry, Germany), and Professor Sir John Meurig Thomas (Cambridge, UK). Together they will set the tone for the three parallel conference themes of Life, Materials, and New Frontiers. Each theme comprises six symposia that have a mixture of invited and submitted talks that embrace light, electron, confocal, and other microscopies.

"Once again, MICROSCIENCE 2010 has attracted an impressive line-up of Plenary Speakers," says Dr Debbie Stokes, the Co-chair of the Organising Committee. "Professor Baumeister and Professor Thomas are leading figures in the fields of electron imaging for life sciences and materials sciences respectively. And, we have Professor Lippincott Schwartz opening with the RMS Pearse Prize Lecture. All of these talks will stimulate thought and provoke discussion, and will complement the conference sessions perfectly, bringing great added-value for all delegates at the event."

The Conference lecture theatres sit within the Main Hall alongside Europe’s largest exhibition dedicated to microscopy, imaging and analysis. This will be home to nearly 100 companies who have taken well over 1100m² of display space. The amount of equipment that exhibitors bring with them has been highlighted by both Carl Zeiss and Leica Microsystems increasing their initial footprints in order to accommodate their needs.

The vast majority of stands have operational equipment that exhibitors are keen to demonstrate. But, they are not there to just sell. They are there to raise awareness of, and interest in, their products.

“The range of kit within the exhibition is quite extraordinary,” says Professor Tony Wilson, the RMS Executive Honorary Secretary. “I defy anybody – regardless of how many years experience they have – to walk around the stands and not see something that makes them stop and think ‘That’s really neat!’. Of course, it’s a commercial exhibition but it also provides a unique opportunity to keep up to date with newly emerging technologies. Knowing what is out there is so important: it is one thing to see an instrument in an advertisement, but there is no substitute for seeing it in action and trying it for yourself. Even if you don’t have the budget now, something you see here could easily form part of your next funding round!"

In addition to the Conference and Exhibition there are daily programmes of technical workshops, a fully-equipped training facility, plus a great social programme.
