Keep Your Cells Well Rounded with new PrimeSurface™ Culture Ware
Mar 20 2014
New PrimeSurface™ culture ware, developed by the Sumitomo Bakelite Company, Japan, is now available in the UK from Alpha Laboratories Ltd. PrimeSurface plastic culture vessels include proprietary low-protein-adsorption technology that prevents cell adhesion, making these ideal for spheroid cell colony formation.
PrimeSurface products provide stable culture surfaces with an ultra-hydrophilic polymer coating containing a high density hydroxyl group. This prevents elution of chemicals from the plate that could affect cell response and also promotes spontaneous spheroid formation within stem cell cultures.
The plates are ideal for homogeneous cell spheroid formation. Adhesion of cells to the culture surface is controlled so that spheroid formation ratio is high and homogeneous culture is possible. They are a valuable tool for stem cell culture, a key focus in the fields of tissue engineering and transplantation research. PrimeSurface products have been successfully used with both embryonic stem (ES) cells and induced pluripotent stem (iPS) cells. The size of stem cell spheroids has been reported to greatly influence stem cell differentiation and uniform embryoid body (EB) formation is preferable. Following EB formation stimuli can be added to induce cell differentiation.
PrimeSurface culture plates have been used in protocols that induce differentiation of ES, iPS and can also be used to culture nerve cells. They are ideal for differentiation and stimulation response studies due to the near in vivo environment and elimination of any influence of the plate material on cells. This also makes them well suited for drug screening using three dimensional cell modelling.
PrimeSurface products include 24 and 96 well plates, plus 35, 60 and 90mm petri dishes.
