New professor to drive immunotherapy innovation
May 14 2025
Dr Xiaoyu (Ariel) Zhou has joined The Wistar Institute’s Vaccine & Immunotherapy Center as assistant professor, bringing cutting-edge research into how immune cells communicate -and how that can be reprogrammed to fight cancer more effectively.
Zhou is developing smart molecular ‘bridges’ to amplify immune signals and CRISPR-based tools to fine-tune immune responses. Her work aims to strengthen therapies like CAR T cells and could have broader applications in infectious disease.
“Dr Zhou’s bold approach fits perfectly with Wistar’s mission to push immunotherapy forward,” said Dr David Weiner, Executive Vice President and Director of the Center.
Zhou earned her PhD in pathogenic organisms at Fudan University and her B.S. in biology from China Agricultural University. She joins Wistar from Yale University, where she was a postdoctoral fellow.
