Biology Week 2025 highlights climate, nature and bioscience impact
Jul 18 2025
The Royal Society of Biology (RSB) is preparing to host its annual Biology Week from 11–19 October 2025, with this year’s focus on ‘nature and climate’. The week-long programme will highlight the breadth and impact of the biosciences across education, research and industry.
Designed to engage professionals, students and the public alike, Biology Week offers a platform to celebrate achievements in the biosciences and spotlight innovation that supports life on Earth. Events will take place both online and in person, encouraging nationwide participation.
Highlights will include a networking and awards ceremony at the House of Commons, where RSB will present accolades such as Apprentice of the Year, BioArtAttack, and School Biology Teacher of the Year, as well as the President’s Medal. The RSB will also host a member-exclusive webinar with forensic anthropologist Professor Lady Sue Black Hon FRSB and a conversation with incoming CEO Dr Doug Brown for Fellows.
STEM-focused outreach will feature prominently, with an online schools talk covering immunology, biotechnology and deep-sea biology, alongside a Plant Health event at Edinburgh’s Royal Botanic Garden. The Spelling Bee competition final will also take place during the week.
Professionals across the bioscience community are encouraged to engage with RSB’s digital campaigns and consider hosting their own events. Funding is available for secondary schools to run Gopher Science Lab days, with promotional resources and guidance offered by the Society.
Susie Rabin, Director of Communications and Public Affairs at RSB, commented: “Biology Week is a pivotal time to bring together people from across the biosciences – both in education and industry – to share their knowledge, inspire others, and hone in on the importance of the biosciences to all.”
