Simplified Method Development in HPLC
Apr 11 2014
Shimadzu presented its Nexera Method Scouting system at the Live Lab Food Analysis exhibit during analytica 2014. This system solution tests up to six columns and eight mobile phases while simplifying method development in high-performance liquid chromatography. Method Scouting provides important and reliable data for determination of analysis conditions. The Method Scouting Solution software simplifies batch creation and ensures a fast and reliable route to analysis start-up.
The Nexera Method Scouting system is based on the Nexera UHPLC, an all-round LC system for ultra-high-speed analysis. It enables automated switching between up to 96 analysis conditions, thereby increasing productivity. The system enables continuous data acquisition overnight and contributes to an efficient method development process. The analysis schedule is generated automatically in the Method Scouting Solution software. The LabSolutions (Shimadzu’s HPLC software) browser function supports users in finding a suitable method.
The Nexera Method Scouting system reduces analysis preparation time and human error, which can occur when manually setting the method and analysis schedule. Mobile phases and columns can be selected from libraries. Additional scouting conditions required, such as gradient slope, can be specified in the Method Scouting Solution software. Column rinsing and equilibration can also be adjusted in the software. Colour-coding of the column and solvent tubings corresponds with the colour-coding in the software’s graphical user interface, further increasing the ease of use.
The Method Scouting system can be connected to a mass spectrometer, which further supports peak assignment. Peaks can then be identified without the need for reanalysis of individual sample components.
In combination with the Drylab chromatography modelling software for further method optimisation and the Validat toolbox for method validation, the Nexera Method Scouting software provides a good basis for efficient HPLC method development and implementation.
