New genomics facility unveiled in Oxford

Dec 06 2023

Azenta Life Sciences announces the opening of a cutting-edge genomics lab in Oxford, UK, set to commence operations in early 2024. This facility, known as the Oxford Genomics Lab, will draw on the expertise of the former Oxford Genomics Centre (OGC) team, noted for its 20-year partnership with academic institutions, pharmaceutical, and biotech companies.

Dr David Buck, former head of OGC and a global authority in high-throughput genomics, will lead the lab. The Oxford Genomics Lab will offer comprehensive next-generation sequencing (NGS) services, encompassing RNA/DNA extraction, library preparation, sequencing, and bioinformatics analysis. Supported by experienced PhD-level study managers, the lab aims to provide specialist project support from design to delivery.

“We are excited to announce our new genomic services facility to the UK scientific community,” said Dr Buck. “The OGC team members are excited to be transitioning to the new Oxford Genomics Lab, providing NGS services continuity to the Oxford scientific community.”

The facility is expected to be fully operational in March 2024 and will utilise GENEWIZ's extensive network for convenient sample submission. The lab will employ state-of-the-art NGS platforms, including Illumina NovaSeqTM X Plus, PacBio Revio, Oxford Nanopore Technologies GridION, 10x Genomics Chromium X, Nanostring GeoMx®, nCounter®, and Olink® Protein Biomarker Detection.
