Research collaboration to target process safety in chemical synthesis

H.E.L Group has entered into a research partnership with the Institute of Chemical Technology (ICT) in Mumbai to enhance process safety and chemical synthesis workflows in India. The collaboration, set for a three-year term, will integrate H.E.L’s advanced Process Safety Hub with ICT Mumbai’s expertise in chemical engineering and related fields.

As part of the agreement, H.E.L will supply ICT Mumbai with a Simular Process Development Reaction Calorimeter. This cutting-edge tool, designed for adiabatic calorimetry, autocatalysis, and batch reactors, enables the optimisation of process conditions, safety assessments, and accurate thermodynamic and kinetic measurements for precise process control.

The Simular Reaction Calorimeter will be placed within ICT Mumbai’s research facilities, where it will support both educational and research efforts. This collaboration aims to foster the development of safe chemical processes while addressing real-world challenges through academic programs and mentoring initiatives.

Professor Virendra Rathod, former Head of Chemical Engineering at ICT Mumbai, emphasised the significance of process optimisation in ensuring safe chemical workflows. He stated: “H.E.L’s Simular Reaction Calorimeter offers a versatile and flexible approach to process development, essential for advancing our research in chemical synthesis. This partnership, along with access to H.E.L’s expertise in process safety, will help us develop cutting-edge solutions for the future.”

Rajeev Kumria, General Manager of H.E.L India, expressed excitement about the partnership: “We are excited to collaborate with ICT Mumbai, India’s leading institution in chemical engineering and technology. Together, we aim to drive innovation and education in process safety, fostering the development of efficient and safe chemical synthesis protocols. This alliance also supports our shared goal of advancing sustainability in the chemical technology industry.”
