Celebrate 70 Years of Laboratory Science and Instrumentation Innovation at Pittcon 2019
Feb 21 2019
Philadelphia will play host to the 70th year of Pittcon, which will be held at the Pennsylvania Convention Center from 17 – 21 March 2019.
Year after year Pittcon is a must attend occasion. As the world's largest annual conference and exposition for laboratory science, this dynamic, global event is expected to attract over 11,500 attendees from industry, academia and government from 80 countries worldwide. Pittcon 2019 offers a unique opportunity to get a hands-on look at the latest innovations and to find solutions to all your laboratory challenges as well as presenting the latest technology and instrumentation from over 750 exhibitors. The robust Technical Program offers the latest research in more than 2,000 technical presentations covering a diverse covering a diverse selection of methodologies and applications. Pittcon also offers more than 100 skill-building short courses in a wide range of topics and the once-a-year chance to network with colleagues.
The 2019 topic of the 29th annual Waters symposium is ‘Ultra High Pressure Liquid Chromatography (UHPLC)’.
Dr Annette Wilson, organiser of the annual symposium commented: “In the past 20 years, liquid chromatography has been improved to provide better and faster separations than ever before with the evolution of UHPLC. The experts in this symposium will describe the basis for, and the realisation of better particles plus the advances in instrumentation to make UHPLC possible.”
The outstanding panel of speakers who will be presenting at the Pittcon 2019 Waters Symposium includes: James Jorgenson, University of North Carolina: Dr Bouvier, Waters Corporation; Peter W. Carr, University of Minnesota; Christopher J. Welch, Indiana Consortium for Analytical Science & Engineering (ICASE).
This session will take place during Pittcon on Monday, 18 March at 1:30 pm. Speaker abstracts and bios can be found at pittcon.org.
Dr Fraser Stoddart, a Nobel Prize in Chemistry 2016 recipient, will deliver the 2019 Wallace H. Coulter Lecture.
His lecture, Serendipity Stokes Discovery: Disrupting Established Industries’ will take place during Pittcon 2019 on Monday, 18 March at 5:00 pm, with a happy hour at Pub Pittcon and poster session immediately following.
Dr Stoddart works in the area of supramolecular chemistry and nanotechnology. He has developed highly efficient syntheses of mechanically-interlocked molecular architectures such as molecular Borromean rings, catenanes and roxtaxanes utilising molecular recognition and molecular self-assembly processes.
When asked to comment on his research, Dr Stoddart said: “In the decades to come, the advent of artificial molecular motors will impact our daily lives at work and at play, in sickness and in health, in much the same way as have electric motors during the past couple of centuries since their invention.”
The 2019 Plenary Lecture, ‘Preserving and Revealing History - Challenges of a Cultural Heritage Scientist’, will be delivered by Fenella France, Chief of the Preservation Research and Testing Division at the Library of Congress.
Dr France researches non-destructive imaging techniques and prevention of environmental degradation to collections. Her current focus is the development of spectral imaging and image processing techniques, and increasing links and access between scientific and scholarly data, developing and providing training workshops to preservation professionals.
This exciting lecture will take place on Tuesday 19 March at 5:00 pm, with a happy hour at Pub Pittcon immediately following.
The 2019 Short Courses will run from 16th - 21st March. With over 100 from which to choose from and offered at beginner and intermediate levels, these range from one-half day up to two-days. There are a wide variety of classes covering topics are covering relevant analytical topics in, environmental, life science, pharmaceutical to name a few. Courses for broad-based application and general lab functions include lab management, quality control, technical writing, statistics, data analysis and lab safety.
This year, over 20 new courses have been added to the schedule covering topics such as NMR spectroscopy, cannabis analytics, chemometrics chromatography, sample preparation, biologics characterisation, and many more.
See a complete list of all short courses either by date or category with descriptions at www.pittcon.org.
The topics for Conferee Networking during Pittcon 2019 have recently been announced. Conferee Networking sessions provide an informal venue for a small group of participants to openly discuss topics of mutual interest or solve problems specific to certain instrumentation or procedures.
This year, there will be approximately 35 facilitated sessions during Conference week covering topics related to water quality, laboratory information/data analysis, safety, biomedical, food science, pharmaceutical science, environmental science and more. These unique 90-minute networking opportunities begin Monday and run through to Thursday afternoon and are open to all registered conferees at no extra cost.
The two ‘Live Demo’ areas on the exposition floor will offer scheduled 15-20 minute interactive product demonstrations by leading exhibitors. These sessions will also give attendees an opportunity to engage technical experts in question and answer sessions. The demos will take place on the hour and half-hour and are open to all registered attendees.
Returning this year on the exposition floor are the NEXUS theatres. These theatres will offer live presentations on a wide range of topics that will engage, entertain and inform. Each session will be conducted in an informal theatre setting to facilitate questions and audience participation.
The official conference and exposition mobile app, Pittcon 2019 App is available now. The app contains valuable information to help you plan and navigate the conference and exposition. It acts as an all-inclusive real-time show guide with details on exhibiting companies, technical sessions, Conferee Networking sessions, Short Courses, DemoZones, NEXUS Theaters, and much more.
Don’t miss the Pittcon 70th Birthday Celebrations which will take place in true Pittcon style on the expo floor on Wednesday 20 March at 2 pm.
