Novel nuclear stains for microscopy and flow cytometry

Biotium, a leader in fluorescent dyes for life science research, has expanded its NucSpot® Nuclear Stains lineup, providing researchers with unprecedented specificity and flexibility for nuclear counterstaining. NucSpot® Nuclear Stains are membrane-impermeant dyes that selectively target the nucleus with minimal fluorescence until binding to DNA, allowing for convenient no-wash nuclear staining.

This innovative approach distinguishes NucSpot® from traditional nuclear stains, such as propidium iodide (PI), TO-PRO®, and TOTO®, by achieving nuclear specificity in fixed and permeabilised cells without the need for RNase treatment.

Now featuring nine colours across the fluorescence spectrum from green to near-infrared (near-IR), NucSpot® Nuclear Stains offer enhanced flexibility for multicolour panel design, compatible with channels such as FITC, Cy®3, PE, Texas Red®, Cy®5, APC, Cy®5.5, and Cy®7. Many of these stains are non-toxic, suitable for live cell cycle profiling by flow cytometry, and can be used in live cultures for multi-day imaging, providing versatility for a wide range of microscopy and flow cytometry applications.

Dr Lori Roberts, Director of Bioscience at Biotium, remarked: "The expanded NucSpot® lineup offers significant advancements in nuclear counterstaining by broadening colour options and improving photostability over existing cyanine-based stains, without requiring RNase treatment. This expansion reflects our commitment to innovative, user-friendly tools for cell biology research."

Biotium’s rigorous in-house testing ensures the reliability and consistency of NucSpot® Nuclear Stains, making them ideal for advanced research applications.
