Nexis GC-2030 Gas Selector: easy switching to cost-efficient solution
Oct 06 2020
In gas chromatography, helium is the preferred carrier gas due to its high inertness and providing of good separation. However, helium is a limited natural resource, and increasing use is leading to rising prices. While hydrogen is the best alternative as carrier gas for reduced operation costs, providing equal or better separation abilities, it is still highly reactive. For users who feel uncomfortable with hydrogen, the Gas Selector of the Nexis GC-2030 offers an efficient solution in reducing GC running costs by keeping the advantages of helium for analysis.
Shimadzu GCs offer several solutions for saving gas:
- The automatic shutdown and startup of the GC avoids unnecessary gas and power consumption during standby times.
- For those who prefer to keep the GC running, the Gas Selector allows cost reduction by changing from expensive helium gas to nitrogen during standby times.
- With an efficient purge procedure, the Gas Selector needs only 10 to 15 minutes for complete exchange of the gas and switching to full helium performance for analysis.
Since both gases can be used freely, it also allows high sensitivity of all components with one TCD (Thermal Conductivity Detector) just by switching between helium and hydrogen as carrier and TCD make-up gas. Changing of the gas is fully automated by time specification of the batch settings.
