Accurate temperature control for UV/VIS Analysis
Jul 27 2017
Temperature dependent analyses such as enzyme kinetics are very common in the Food & Beverage industry. Lipases are enzymes that catalyse the cleavage of fats (lipids) and play, not only an important role in the metabolism of living organisms, but also in many industrial applications. Such analyses require high precision of temperatures and CuveT is optimally designed to ensure it.
CuveT is a peltier-based, single cuvette thermostat for the Mettler-Toledo UV/VIS Excellence spectrophotometers, designed to have a compact footprint with excellent thermostatting capabilities. In addition, the thermostatting process can be fully automated with the use of LabX PC Software or by the UV/VIS instrument's method control in standalone mode. The automation of the thermostatting process ensures the right parameters are always selected while increasing efficiency.
CuveT's benefits include:
Compact design – CuveT’s control and thermostatting unit has been designed to optimise the benchtop space. The thermostatting unit has a very small foot print and fits neatly on top of the UV/VIS Excellence instrument.
Fast and accurate temperature control – The double sensor technology used in the CuveT allows fast temperature control by comparing the sample temperature inside the cuvette against the furnace temperature. This setup allows the CuveT to reach the target temperature quickly and precisely with only minimal overshooting of the sample temperature. Furthermore, accurate absolute temperature readings are ensured by the internal adjustment procedure in the device.
Operating temperature range: 4ºC to 95ºC
Temperature accuracy: ±0.1ºC
Maximum overshooting in one degree steps: 0.1ºC
Moreover, the user can regulate the stirring speed in 10 mm cuvettes up to a maximum of 1800 rpm. This avoids thermal gradients in the sample and allows reagent mixing. Thanks to the fast homogenisation of the temperature profile, the measured temperature is very accurate.
Secure operation – CuveT's thermostatting unit is based on the proven thermoelectric Peltier technology. Only air based heating and cooling capabilities are required, which erase the need of liquid circulating systems. The liquid-free setup provides robust operational security at low maintenance costs.
