Sigma-Aldrich showcased a number of solutions at the 2010 Scientific Conference and Laboratory Show to help manage laboratory stockroom items, reducing laboratory waste and furthering scientific research.

An eVend Vending Machines is the ultimate in stock control. An on-site solution for products, whenever they are needed. The functionality provides the ability to control access to products in the eVend machine, who accesses the unit, what products are taken, when the system is accessed and where the products are to be invoiced, meaning stock on site is just what is required.

Any materials, which are regularly used in volume, can be included to reduce time spent in managing, ordering and controlling supplies. Integrated auto-procurement reduces re-ordering overheads and deliveries to site and the data visibility allows you to analyse historical data, implement or improve cost control. This unique solution offers users the flexibility to put consumable of all shapes and sizes and the Smart-Waiter Product Delivery System is used to prevent potential damage caused by conventional delivery of products.

The Sigma-Aldrich Returnable Container Program offers the user a safe way to handle laboratory solvents; the containers are virtually unbreakable reducing any possible fire risks. Environmental benefits are considerable as the containers are reusable, avoiding any waste of empty bottles and the need for additional packaging, such as cartons and polystyrene.

For the stockroom this is an economical way to purchase and store solvents, minimising extra costs for disposal of contaminated bottles and reduces warehousing cost. Containers require up to 50% less space than equivalent volume in glass bottles. Optional direct connection to devices such as synthesizers and HPLC equipment are available and being a closed system from production to point of use avoids contamination from air
pollution or moisture.
