Job Costing Solution on Site
Feb 09 2010
A web-based job costing software application has been developed by Quality Systems International (QSI) to enable field engineers and technicians from contract laboratories to quickly and easily allocate and record job costs while on location at client sites.
The software application, which features a simple graphical user interface, is able to run as a stand-alone solution or be integrated with QSI’s proven WinLims software. The job costing solution enables organisations that need to record job details and assign actual costs incurred performing a job while on location. A job can be created in the application identifying the customer, contact details, the site for the job, job number and such like. Once created, the actual costs can be assigned to the job.
Cost items that can be recorded include employees’ time, expenses such as travel and hotels as well as consumables used during the job. The job can also contain the contract review notes and authority to proceed with the job.
“The job costing application is able to integrate with QSI’s proven time costing software so that each employee’s time records who work on a specific job will be automatically assigned to the job,” explained Clive Collier, QSI’s managing director. “Once a job is completed the full costing details can be transferred via an interface to payroll and accounting systems such as Sage.”
The new job costing software solution is also available as part of QSI’s WinLims Rental solution that enables organisations such as contract laboratories to use a full LIMS package for a low monthly fee of a few hundred pounds a month, with a low up-front cost. Identical to QSI’s full WinLims system, WinLims Rental comes bundled with an installation programme and tutorials to get users up and running as quickly and easily as possible. The rental agreements can be converted to a subscription contract or full purchase at any time, keeping an organisation’s options open.
