New 6540 Series Photostability Chambers
Apr 05 2007
Photostability testing involves the study of the effects of indoor lighting and light through a window on a product, and typical testing normally takes the form of forced degradation and confirmatory testing on the product in question.
Rather than using a single bulb type, such as Xenon or metal halide, both of which can give false results if not filtered correctly, the Caron 6540 Series employs a unique compartmentalized chamber design. The upper compartment is fitted with elements for UVA testing whereas the lower compartment is fitted with elements for VIS testing. By using separate compartments in this way, product can be tested to specific wavelengths, as required in the ICH guidelines. Testing in this way allows exact confirmatory limits to be reached.
This second generation bench-top design controls light and temperature conditions through an easy-to-use colour touch-screen interface. Lights automatically shut off after a specified exposure level or time duration. Uniform light distribution and high intensity levels allow quick response for forced degradation testing and confirmatory studies. Precise humidity control is also available on the 6540 Series and is achieved through ultrasonic injection and mechanical refrigeration methods.
As well as its obvious application in the Pharmaceutical sector, the 6540 Series can also be used for the testing of coatings/adhesives, plant research, inks, cosmetics and food/nutraceutical.
