New Mini Mixer Added to Compact Lab Machine Series
Apr 26 2010
Hosokawa Micron Ltd announced the launch of their new ultra small laboratory mixer called PICOMIX, which forms part of the Picoline series of ultra compact laboratory machines capable of processing very small batches of a few grams down to below 1gm. As the principle of operation is the same as large production machines R&D departments can be confident in scale up when transferring to a full manufacturing process.
The Picomix has been developed by Hosokawa Micron BV, a world leader in mixing technology with household names such as Nauta, Vrieco and Cyclomix brands, and is an extremely compact high shear impact mixer.
R&D departments often have to work with very small quantities of expensive products and the Picomix has a mixing volume of 25cc to 100cc and the rotor speed and type can be adjusted to give high shear impact to very gentle mixing. As no bearings or seals are within the mixing zone contamination is avoided and product temperature rise is minimal. However, should heating or cooling be required then this can be achieved using slightly different designs of mixing chambers. Cleaning of the Picomix is very quick and easy and there is full discharge without any loss of material.
Drive power is 0.75kw and the maximum rotor speed is 6000rpm giving a tip speed of 20m/sec which with direct drive speed regulation can be significantly reduced and should torque measurement be required then this can also be offered. The Picomix is ideally suited for research and development/ small-scale manufacture of expensive materials in the field of nanotechnology, pharmaceuticals, plastics, specialised ceramics and chemicals or new functional materials. As part of the Picoline series, which includes machines for size reduction and micronisation, the Picomix is leading the way in small batch processing technology.
