CPC: A cost-effective alternative to HPLC for Natural Product Purification
Apr 06 2021
Laboratories purifying natural compounds are fast adopting Centrifugal Partition Chromatography (CPC) as a highly efficient alternative to traditional HPLC technologies. With its larger injection volumes, faster flow rates, combined with high yields and purity, instruments like Gilson’s CPC systems provide a scalable, efficient, and cost-effective solution for purification and extraction research.
Because CPC uses both liquid stationary and mobile phases, this technique can handle complex and heavily contaminated starting extracts such as extracts from biological sources, such as plant extracts, algae, fermentation broths etc. It also offers significant costs savings in comparison to expensive traditional columns or cartridge replacement used by preparative HPLC and flash chromatography methods. CPC also uses five times less solvent and eliminates silica recycling costs.
Most importantly, CPC can accommodate faster flow rates and high sample injection capacities from mg to kg, improving the productivity of the separation, particularly in scenarios where multiple runs are required.
Gilson has released two new Applications Notes:
Purification of Vanillin: A Comparative Study Between Prep HPLC and CPC and
VERITY® CPC-250: Two-Step Purification of Alkaloid With Antimalarial Activity.
