Plug'n'prep(R) Protocols Open Up Complete Freedom of Choice to Automate Nucleic Acid Purification

Nov 26 2007

The epMotion is the only open automated liquid handling system with pre-tested, 'ready-to-go' methods for automated nucleic acid purification.

Intensive collaboration between Eppendorf AG and five major vendors of nucleic acid purification chemistries has led to a unique development in automated protocols. epMotion Plug'n'Prep technology is a completely new concept, offering pre-tested methods for walk-away DNA/RNA purification using a choice of more than 25 different protocols.

As a truly open automated pipetting system, the Eppendorf epMotion gives researchers complete freedom to choose any purification technology. Invitrogen, Promega, MACHEREY-NAGEL, Invitek and 5 PRIME have all developed, optimised and tested epMotion methods. Now epMotion users can simply select their preferred brand and type of extraction kit, download the pre-tested method from the epMotion website and transfer the method data file to the epMotion. No further adaptation is required and set-up time is less than an hour.

According to Holger Eggert, Eppendorf epMotion product manager, "Using epMotion with Plug'n'Prep protocols offers three main advantages for researchers: freedom to select any purification chemistry supplier; all methods are ready to go, saving time and money; superior nucleic acid yield and purity are assured as the Plug'n'Prep methods have been optimised in the kit suppliers own labs. A wide range of applications are available, including gDNA extraction from blood, tissue-cultured cells and bacteria, as well as isolation of total RNA, viral DNA and RNA, plasmid purification, BAC preparation and PCR clean-up."

epMotion automated pipetting systems are not only designed to be extremely simple to operate, they are also highly flexible. All typical liquid handling steps used in downstream applications can be fully automated, enabling users to walk away and perform other tasks at the same time.
