Advanced Accuracy and Precision in Nanolitre Microinjection
Feb 16 2018
Single-cell microinjection is a powerful and versatile technique for introducing exogenous material into cells, or transferring cellular components between cells. It is normally performed using a fine glass capillary, under a specialised optical microscope setup incorporating a micromanipulator. Microinjection is frequently used in genetic engineering and transgenetics to insert genetic material into single cells. It is also used in basic genetics research, in the cloning of organisms, and in the study of cell biology and viruses. Common clinical applications include In Vitro Fertilisation (IVF) and Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI) to help achieve fertilisation for couples with severe male factor infertility. Other areas include ophthalmology procedures such as Retinal Pigment Epithelial (RPE) and Intra Occular (IO) injection.
The Drummond Programmable Nanoject III Nanolitre Injector is designed for meticulous injection procedures into cellular models such as oocytes and embryos with delicate membranes. A number of enhanced features enable easy setup and operation as well as more accurate injection of nanolitre volumes down to 0.6 nl.
Potential applications have been expanded with user-friendly, fully programmable touchscreen operation. Lower injection volumes are possible and the user can select the injection rate. The Nanoject III does not use any O-rings to secure the micropipette. Instead, a small chuck and a silicon receiver have been incorporated for the glass micropipette. The proven hydraulic technology ensures accurate and consistent injection of nanolitre volumes
Different operational modes enable the user to program the unit to do single manual injections, as well as multiple injection cycle recipes. The program recipes are automatically saved and labelled in sequential order. The intuitive touchscreen on the control box enables prompted input and execution of tasks.
The Nanoject III Programmable Nanolitre Injector is supplied as a kit that contains: The control box and power source, Injector, Injector head cable, vial of 100 3.5Ë glass capillaries, vial of 100 7Ë glass capillaries, Backfilling needle and Universal adapter.
