New Malaysia facility to support growing Asian medical market

Alleima, a trusted partner to leading medical device manufacturers, is expanding its production footprint in Asia to support the region's growing demand for medical solutions. The company plans to open a new facility in Penang, Malaysia, by 2026, enhancing its precision wire manufacturing capabilities within the medical sector.

With a long history in the medical field, Alleima specialises in ultra-fine medical wire used in applications across remote patient monitoring, vascular therapy, neurostimulation, and sensing. These high-quality, innovative solutions are developed in close collaboration with partners to support life-changing medical advancements.

Penang, a rapidly expanding hub for medical technology companies in Asia, offers an ideal location for Alleima’s new facility. The site will operate under the company’s Kanthal Division, increasing manufacturing capacity and flexibility to capture growth opportunities in the region.

“This new manufacturing presence enables us to better serve the fast-growing demand for medical products and supports our long-term growth strategy in the sector,” said Robert Stål, President of the Kanthal Division.

Gary Davies, President of Business Unit Medical in Kanthal, highlighted the strategic importance of the Asian market, noting that factors like an aging population and the adoption of advanced medical technologies are fuelling demand. “The new facility allows us to work more closely with new and existing customers in Asia,” Davies added.

Preparations for the new site will begin by the end of 2024, with commercial deliveries expected to start in 2026. Alleima currently manufactures medical products in Europe and the US, and this expansion will further strengthen its presence in the strategic medical market.
