NanoDrop Upgrades
Sep 24 2009
The latest version of Thermo Scientific’s NanoDrop 2000 and 2000c are available directly from Sussex-based Labtech International with options to trade in existing model 1000 instruments. These full spectrum UV-Vis spectrophotometers, capable of measuring samples as small as 0.5ul, utilise a patented sample retention system, which allows micro-volume samples to be pipetted directly onto a measurement surface, with no dilutions needed.
With measurement less than 5 seconds, scientists can quantify and assess the purity of samples such as nucleic acids and proteins quickly and easily. The NanoDrop™ 2000c combines patent-pending micro-volume pedestal technology and cuvette capability onto one platform, providing the flexibility to choose the measuring technique most appropriate for a particular sample.
The ND2000 will reportedly read the sample in half the time compared with the ND1000 with 4x greater dynamic range and sample volume requirement of just 0.5ul. This means improved capability for proteins with lower wavelength absorbance such as peptides at 205nm and the expanded concentration ranges (>15,000 ng/ul dsDNA) eliminate the need to dilute highly concentrated samples.
The software enables creation of custom methods and incorporates pre-configured methods for designing reports and exporting data.
The ND2000c features added cuvette capability, which allows for kinetics (time or time/temperature studies) and cell culture (OD 600) measurements and expanded measurement options for all types of samples using either cuvette or pedestal measuring options.
