New Sulphur and Nitrogen Chemiluminescence Detectors Enhancements

Nov 07 2006

GE Analytical Instruments, a division of GE Water & Process Technologies, has redesigned the exterior casing and added a new capability to its Sievers* Dual Plasma Sulphur and Nitrogen Chemiluminescence Detectors (SCD and NCD). The new casing has been updated with an easier-to-read user interface and new blue markings. In addition, a high-speed amplifier for fast gas chromatography (GC) and comprehensive 2D GC applications is now available for both instruments, allowing for faster and higher resolution separations.

Since its introduction in 1987, the Sievers SCD has been widely recognized for its extremely sensitive detection, high selectivity over carbon, excellent equimolar and linear responses, and absence of quenching. Because it is the most sensitive and selective chromatographic detector for sulphur-containing compounds available, the 355 SCD is the detector of choice for three American Society for Testing Methods (ASTM) methods: 5504, 5623, and 7011. The 255 NCD is known for extremely selective and stable response to nitrogen compounds.

The SCD and NCD use patented Sievers Dual Plasma Technology, which harnesses the power of two-flame plasma combustion. This substantially enhances detector analytical performance, cuts start-up and equilibration times, reduces maintenance, and enables new detection capabilities.

The Sievers 355 SCD and 255 NCD have widespread applications in the analysis of sulphur and nitrogen compounds in gases, petroleum and petrochemical products, polymers, chemical, foods, beverages, fragrances, pesticides, fuel cell technology, and environmental samples.
